Narrated in the first person and enriched with photographs, recordings, and images recreated using artificial intelligence, the documentary employs an innovative visual language to give form to a memory that resists the erosion of time.
About the Guests
Antonieta Felmanas is a Holocaust survivor whose life has been dedicated to social causes. She was the first president of Unibes, established from the merger of three institutions within the Jewish community. She launched the Aldeia da Esperança at CIAM and, over 30 years ago, co-founded the Instituto Anchieta Grajaú, where she continues to serve as an advisor. The institute, which serves hundreds of children and families daily, is inspired by the philosophy of Janusz Korczak and has become a reference point in education, nutrition, and healthcare in São Paulo’s underserved neighborhoods.
Professor Sarita Mucinic Sarue holds a degree in pedagogy from Mackenzie Presbyterian University, a master’s in Jewish Studies from the University of São Paulo (USP), and has over 30 years of experience in education. She coordinates the Education and Culture department at the Holocaust Memorial of São Paulo, volunteers in workshops on Jewish culture and music, and serves on the board of the Chaverim Group. She completed Holocaust studies at Yad Vashem (Jerusalem) and is a leading scholar on Janusz Korczak, the physician and educator who advocated for children’s rights before World War II.
She is the author of Voices of Peace in Times of War (2015), Janusz Korczak – A Life in Defense of Childhood (2022), a finalist for the Jabuti Prize, and Bricks of Goodness (2024). She has published numerous articles and gives lectures on Jewish education, the Holocaust, and children’s rights.
About the Holocaust Memorial
Located in the first synagogue built in the State of São Paulo, the Holocaust Memorial retraces the tragic events that led to the deaths of six million Jews in Europe—including 1.5 million babies and children—as well as Romani people, Black individuals, LGBTQIA+ persons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, people with disabilities, and all those who showed empathy and tried to protect these groups during World War II.
The visit offers an immersive, multisensory historical experience that connects the public with contemporary messages through the lens of the past. Admission is free and can be scheduled at www.memorialdoholocausto.org.br.

Doc.MIS | Taibale: The Story of a Rescued Child
As part of its June programming, Doc.MIS — the monthly documentary screening initiative of the Museum of Image and Sound (MIS), an institution of the São Paulo State Department of Culture, Economy, and Creative Industries — will present the unreleased film Taibale: The Story of a Rescued Child, directed by Gianni Torres.
After the screening, there will be a discussion with the documentary’s main subject, Mrs. Antonieta Felmanas, and Professor Sarita Mucinic Sarue, Coordinator of Education and Culture at the Holocaust Memorial. The event, held in partnership with the Holocaust Memorial, will take place on Thursday, June 5, at 7:00 p.m., and admission is free.

Doc.MIS is a monthly screening program of short, medium, or feature-length documentaries that either engage with themes addressed by the museum or serve as a platform for the exhibition and discussion of socially relevant topics, both in national and international productions. Documentary films play a key role in preserving history and collective memory by recording historical and cultural events, while also serving an educational purpose by offering a wide range of topics and perspectives to the public.

Taibale: The Story of a Rescued Child (Taibale, história de uma criança resgatada, dir. Gianni Torres, 2024, Italy, 72 min, digital) – The untold story of Antonieta Felmanas unfolds as a powerful journey of survival, courage, and empathy. Born in 1940 in Kazakhstan after her pregnant mother was deported by Soviet authorities during the occupation of present-day Belarus, Antonieta survived Nazi persecution with the help of a Christian baron and rural villagers.
